This paper presents an analysis of the role of Portuguese women in the migration decision of typical Portuguese ‘male-dominated’ families; their continued importance in the actual departure and in the acculturative process upon arrival. The author seeks to redress a previous imbalance in migration literature neglecting the role of women in these processes.
