Abstract
Program Description:
This program focuses on what is often not discussed in practice management: the mistakes made in setting up and running a practice. It features four otolaryngologists who have all formed their own practices and are all in different stages of their careers. The presenters will discuss the errors they have made along the way, including poor job selection, improper choice of partners, errors in forming professional relationships, isolation of referring physicians, and failed business ventures. They will further discuss when it is time to cut anchor, disband relationships, and start anew. The pros and cons of doing this will be presented.
Educational Objectives:
1) Describe the most common mistakes otolaryngologists have made when starting a practice. 2) Learn how to make smart decisions about their practice and its development. 3) Analyze what to do and not to do in practice management and development.
