Abstract
Program Description:
This miniseminar will present a practical approach to the evaluation of swallowing problems, one of the most common problems seen in otolaryngology practices. A combination of didactic teaching and case presentations will be used to illustrate appropriate workup of swallowing problems, including history, examination, and diagnostic tests. The use of swallowing evaluations, such as fluoroscopy, endoscopy, and manometry, will be discussed. Non-surgical and surgical approaches to managing swallowing problems, along with risks and benefits, will be presented.
Educational Objectives:
1) Identify a practical algorithm for the evaluation of swallowing problems. 2) Discuss the benefits of diagnostic tests for swallowing problems, including fluoroscopy, endoscopy, and manometry. 3) Apply the appropriate approach to non-surgical and surgical therapeutics for swallowing problems.
