Abstract
Objective: 1) Assess the efficacy of functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) in chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) patients with minimal radiological findings on CT scan. 2) Correlate between the preoperative symptoms and CT score.
Method: CRS patients >18 years refractory to 3 weeks medical therapy were evaluated with CT PNS. Patients were grouped based on the Lund-Mackay Staging system: A (0-6 score), B (7-24 score). All patients were subjected to FESS. Symptom scoring was done by visual analog scale and SNOT 20.
Results: Seventy patients (35 in each group) were evaluated. CRS with minimal disease on CT showed significant statistical improvement in symptom score after FESS. There was no correlation between preoperative symptoms and CT score.
Conclusion: A good subjective outcome in terms of symptom improvement can be obtained with FESS in patients with CRS with minimal disease on CT scan.
