This study investigated the reliability ofan attitude scale on safety-belt and child safety-
seat use. The scale, which consists of 17 behavior-oriented statements, was administered to
169 employees of a petroleum and chemical company. Based on analysis the reliability
was high (r = 94) and all item correlations (p < .01) and statement-scale coefficients
(p < .001) were statistically significant. An analysis of the structure of this scale suggests
three underlying factors. Scores on the original scale and proposed subscales were also
positively related to self-reported safety-belt use.
