Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine possible changes which have transpired in the attitudes, perceptions, and reactions toward sport of pre- and post-Title IX athletes. It was hypothesized that along with the structural changes which have transpired in post-Title IX programs, a concurrent shift occurred in the attitudes, perceptions, and reactions toward sport of female athtetes. Based on data from 697 former female intercollegiate athletes, pre- and post-Title IX athletes varied on items relative to reasons for selection of a university, sport role commitment, importance of scholarship offer, reactions to the intercollegiate sport experience, and reactions to "retiring from intercollegiate sport. When contrasted to a comparable sample of former male inter collegiate athletes, the responses of post-Title IX female athletes were found to be more similar to those of their male counterparts than was true of pre-Title IX athletes.
