Knowing the difference between a duet and trio requires far less mental power than judging which group has superior talent. Similarly, asking a 10-year-old to find the sum of two digits will cause him less mental strain than having him explain the purpose of addition. Whether recognizing a fact, carrying out a skill, or making complex judgments, our brains provide us with amazing powers.
