Providing Diversity in Middle Level World Language Study in Massachusetts

Abstract

The Massachusetts Education Reform Bill of 1993 supports the devel opment and implementation of curriculum frameworks in all major dis ciplines, including world languages. The department of education has implemented a statewide assessment system that provides proficiency benchmarks at Grade 10. As a result, districts have been reviewing their curricula and expanding their programs whenever possible to meet the needs of students faced with proficiency exams.
