Preliminary results in Colorado imply that uniform standards not only raise student achievement, but also close gaps between various ethnic and socioeconomic groups. Setting standards, raising expectations, and assessing student progress in a meaningful way gives students the tools they need to thrive in the 21st century and the tools parents and teachers need to help them.
