Back-to-Basics: Reflections On the Past and a Glimpse Into the Future

Abstract

For more than a decade now, national concern with education has focused almost exclusively on the need to improve basic skills instruction in our schools. While changes in funding direc tions have led to the demise of many basic skills programs, it appears that the "back-to-basics" movement will continue through the 1980s.
