Abstract
Willower and others have studied the values, norms, and traditions governing the day-to-day actions and interactions of teachers. Among their findings: Teachers tend to take a custodial rather than a humanistic approach to pupil control. "Old Guard" teachers tend to equate good teaching with good discipline and to im pose this concept on neophytes.
