"The new course of study seeks to keep the Negro in focus as a constant and natural par ticipant in U.S. history. Heretofore, only a fragmented or blurred conception of the Ne gro's role in our nation's past has emerged be cause he has tended to appear only infre quently and spasmodically in the history books."
