Abstract
In the fall of 1968, 10 days after school opened, the black student union presented the Berke ley school administration with 14 demands. This article describes the response of the Board of Education and the school administration to the black students' demands, and other efforts being made to correct racial imbalance in the Berkeley schools. The articles which follow discuss the Berkeley black studies program in greater detail, with focus on work in certain areas.
