Abstract
Black history and black studies are being demanded in schools throughout the country, due to the traditional unfairness and inade quacy in American history accounts of the contributions of black Americans to our society. At least temporarily, separate courses devoted solely to the study of American black people — including their African heritage—are needed to restore some balance to the social studies. But what is most direly needed is unity, Mr. Keller believes. And unity will not be restored until American history is rewritten to account truth fully for all Americans.
