Abstract
"Several of Marshall McLuhan's ideas on mo saics, if I understand him correctly, can (ironi cally) be lined up in sequence: (a) consciousness is not a verbal process; (b) awareness is not linear; (c) visual representations are without syntax; (d) a mosaic of impressions compels par ticipation from the viewer; (e) closure should be forestalled in order to prolong engagement; and (f) the new pedagogy calls for the development of content with a sense-mix that will engage pupils in maximized active involvement."
