Abstract
"It is very important that we recognize what is at stake in the current crisis in urban educa tion. It is not only the lives of the millions who inhabit the ghetto that are in jeopardy; in major respects it is the public school system it self, the system which has been an invaluable means for assimilating our nation's diverse social groups."
