The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) unveiled Principles and Standards for School Mathematics in April 2000. An extension of three earlier publications, Principles and Standards is a resource for anyone who makes decisions affecting mathematics education for prekindergarten through grade 12. This article highlights key points and discusses the importance of school administrators in realizing the vision set forth in the document.
