A rapid tracheal infusion method for lung fixation was performed. An infusion time of 1 minute, at 20 cm to 30 cm constant infusion height, allowed reproducible inflation and fixation of lung samples for subsequent histologic processing. The resulting microscopic sections of lung were superior in quality to lungs fixed by standard immersion methods, and were comparable in quality to lungs fixed using longer infusion times.
