Abstract
This study investigated the reasons why couples stayed together after infidelity and the future plans that contributed to maintaining their relationship. It was a descriptive qualitative study that analyzed the experiences of 20 Brazilian heterosexual couples who continued their relationship after experiencing infidelity. Data collection was conducted through two virtual meetings. Using the photovoice technique, the couples selected five images that symbolized their reasons for staying together after infidelity and their future plans. The interviews and collected materials were analyzed according to Bardin’s methodology, with the support of MAXQDA Analytics. The couples highlighted values, children, family, and their relationship as reasons for staying together after infidelity. Regarding future plans, they mentioned short- and long-term plans, growing old together, building assets, and traveling. The use of photovoice provided a more sensitive understanding of the topic, and the results aim to support health professionals in the therapeutic management of infidelity cases.
