The technological revolution has had a great impact upon information professionals, and information technology (IT) has become an important part of their working lives. The year 2000 problem will affect every organisation, regardless of whether or not they themselves use IT. This paper discusses what the year 2000 problem is, when and where it occurs, its scale and its solutions. Awareness, attitudes and responses towards the year 2000 problem in general and (more specifically) among information professionals are examined.
