There has been increasing interest in migrating expert systems (ES) technology to decision support systems (DSS) design to provide a more accessible, productive and domain-in dependent information and computing environment for managers. Most of the research efforts focus on physical integration of DSS and ES. Two areas have received less attention: (1) logical integration of DSS and ES, and (2) organizational strategies for integration. In this paper, we propose an organization-based DSS/ES architecture. A signifi cant contribution of this approach is its cost-effective DSS/ES framework for an organization.
