This paper presents a description of approaches followed in designing and developing the Indian Energy Literature data base (INDEL) using Micro-CDS/ISIS. Analysis Phase, Data base Design Phase, Database Creation and Maintenance Phase and Functional Phase have been identified as major steps in designing and developing a bibliographic database with ready- to-use software. The observations with regard to maintenance of the database, information retrieval and printing of the whole or a part of the database are discussed in detail.
