Abstract
Approaches to information policy making in Western Europe and North America are reviewed in the light of prevail ing political ideologies. The trend to liberalization in telecom munications is examined, with particular reference to the de regulation of AT&T and the privatization of BT. Problems and practices relating to transborder data flows are examined in the light of the growing trend to trans-national venturing in the electronic information services/communications sector. This article also looks at the wider implications of concentration and massification in the global information industry.
