Abstract
The Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of Shanghai (ISTIS) is a comprehensive information centre in Shanghai region. It has a staff of about 540 and holds 16000000 item literature collections. According to guidelines: "The sci entific and technical information work must serve the eco nomic construction efficiently" ISTIS provides a variety of information services for production technology and research work. At the same time, ISTIS has begun to provide com puterized information retrieval and international online retri eval for the users, and to prepare to build up the computerized information retrieval network within Shanghai region.
