Abilities to use sensory standards and to construct and use model images are argued to be primary cognitive abilities, which develop in preschool children and to be based on the acquisition of different forms of socially elaborated cognitive means. Special intervention programs have been designed to enhance the development of these abilities. The results demonstrate not only a considerable improvement in the solution of different cognitive tasks but significant positive changes in neurophysiological activity.
