In two studies babies aged 110-130 days observed pairs of objects in rotary motion.
Significant differences in looking time were obtained for regular over scrambled
schematic faces and a round cross over a square. The data suggest that young infants
process the distinctive features of objects that continuously change orientation.
The importance of the findings for theories of cognitive and perceptual development
is discussed in light of previous studies of infants' tracking of moving objects.
