Abstract
It has been demonstrated (Hughes 1978) that exploration is a constrained behaviour category relative to play. A hierarchical cluster analysis of behavioural events during exploration and play reveals the within-element organisation of these categories. It is argued that the hierarchical structures support the conclusions of the earlier paper and provide an economic illustration of the juxtaposition of behavioural elements during exploration and play.
