This article focuses on globalization as a high-tech phenomenon, and from this perspective analyses its consequences for Latin America. On the one hand, key factors needed for ‘keeping on the right side’ of globalization are very weak in the region. On the other, there is some recognition that the importance of globalization might legitimize as levers for development those indigenous forces that have so far enjoyed scant recognition.
