Abstract
In order to integrate medical and nonmed ical education, the University of Rochester recently established a so-called Early Selec tion Program. Students are chosen after their sophomore year and spend the next four years concurrently enrolled in undergraduate and preclinical courses. An initial assessment of the first three cohorts (25 students) shows that they perform success fully in both their undergraduate and medical school coursework. In their nonmedical courses the Early Selection students achieve slightly greater depth and less breadth than two comparison groups of "regular" premedical students.
