Abstract
Giving Birth and Independence is a program which includes four 30-minute videotapes in soap-opera style and which enables parents to meet the special demands of having a handicapped child. This series helps parents, professionals, and paraprofessionals learn to talk, to listen, and to work with handicapped children. The program also contains a workshop manual with specific instructions for audience participation. Even though participants can absorb important information from viewing only one program, parents and professionals can retain more information and can get emotional help from this series if it is shown in a workshop setting.
