Abstract
Florida is recognized as a leader in education for the gifted and talented. According to a recent study, Florida is second highest in the nation for expenditures in gifted education. Mandated programs for gifted in grades K-12 have been in operation since 1976. Advocacy efforts in Florida are a viable part of why these facts are true. Leaders in advocacy efforts have had the foresight to be flexible in determining where and when to act on policy matters. With limited resources in a changing political arena, it has been imperative that selective action be taken in placing emphasis on decisions to be made.
