Abstract
Linear phased array scanners employ dynamic focusing in the plane of the array and either no focusing or fixed lens focusing perpendicular to this plane. In this paper, we describe a simple and inexpensive method for improving the resolution in the perpendicular direction. The system is based on a transducer assembly consisting of three parallel lines, each containing 80 transducers, and custom monolithic integrated circuits. Sound field measurements and standardized B-scan images of phantoms were obtained with the system. An image interlacing technique is proposed in order to avoid the need for parallel processing channels.
