Abstract
By modeling soft tissue as a viscoelastic Voigt body, arguments are adduced to explain the large magnitude and linear frequency dependence of ultrasonic attenuation in soft tissues. A comment is also made on the similar values of ultrasonic velocity in soft tissues and water.
