Abstract
I am an overthinker. Sometimes thinking, dreaming, reflecting, and replaying things in my head seems to be a gift of deep insight and sometimes even déjà vu. This commentary is a story about one professional incident that frequently replays in my head. I use it to “put to bed” the professional exchange I had with a colleague during a presentation and my thoughts about how I should have responded. I offer the commentary as a useful demonstration—or at least a starting point—for other scholars’ own thinking about how to respond to questions about their scholarly inquiry and humanity. Hopefully it offers insights that might help others to respond authentically, with intellectual rigor and confidence.
