Abstract
Academic research in sociology primarily defines problems, explores puzzles, develops theory, and produces knowledge for colleagues in academia. I argue for a greater focus on the study of solutions and our active participation in bringing them about. This article explores the literature on public sociology and scholar activism, as well as examples focused on researching and teaching climate and environmental justice. An exploration of scholar activism can tell us more about how to do humanist sociology in service to climate justice.
