Abstract

Corrigendum to ICRP Publication 131: Stem cell biology with respect to carcinogenesis aspects of radiological protection [Ann. ICRP 44(3/4), 2015]. DOI: 10.1177/0146645315595585.
The following error has been identified in Para. 33, p. 54–55:
The referenced paper should be ‘Potten, 2004’, not ‘Potten, 2004b’. The corrected sentence is: ‘For example, the P4 stem cells of mouse small intestine are known for their high sensitivity to radiation-induced apoptosis (Potten, 1977, 2004; Potten et al., 2002) (Annex D).’
The following error has been identified in Para. 40, p. 58:
The charge of CD34 in the last sentence should be ‘−’, not ‘+’. The corrected sentence is: ‘Therefore, a conclusive judgement cannot be made at present from the study on the chromosome sensitivity of CD34− HSPCs (Becker et al., 2009).’
The following error has been identified in Para. 60, p. 67:
The referenced Fig. D.8 of Annex D should be deleted. The corrected sentence is: ‘This was later supported by the molecular analysis of human colon cancer, in which the conversion of normal epithelial cells to adenoma and its progression to carcinoma were shown to be associated with a stepwise acquisition of mutations of oncogenes and tumour suppressor genes (Vogelstein et al., 1988).’
The following error has been identified in Para. 61, p. 67:
‘Former’ and ‘latter’ should be swapped. The corrected sentence is: ‘However, it is likely that they differ in target-cell types, with some of the latter being fetal-stage primitive cells (the resulting cancer often carries the suffix of ‘blastoma’) and the former being adult tissue stem cells and progenitor cells.’
The following error has been identified in Para. 63, p. 68:
A paragraph numbering error occurred; there is no Para. 63.
The following error has been identified in Para. 83, p. 77:
‘Section 3.6.2’ should be ‘Section 3.6’, not ‘Section 3.6.2’. The corrected sentence is: ‘Overall, EAR and ERR represent different mechanistic properties of stem cell behaviour during radiation carcinogenesis (Section 3.6).’
The following error has been identified in Para. 84, p. 78:
‘Section 3.6.2’ should be ‘Section 3.6’, not ‘Section 3.6.2’. The corrected sentence is: ‘In view of the above differences and the complexities in making direct comparisons, in particular for skin and bone vs the other tissues in Table 3.1, a more detailed discussion of EAR and ERR values with reference to stem-cell-based mechanisms would be very speculative (Section 3.6).’
The following error has been identified in Para. 111, p. 88:
The referenced papers should be ‘(ICRP, 1991, 1995, 2007)’ not ‘(ICRP, 1991, 1995, 1996, 2007)’. The corrected sentence is: ‘Thus, the Commission has made some judgements and assumptions about the location of target cells in the skin, the respiratory and alimentary tracts, and the skeleton (ICRP, 1991, 1995, 2007).’
ICRP apologises for any inconvenience or confusion caused by these errors.
