Abstract
An analysis of the 278 Division 8postersubmissionsfor the 1983 APA convention examined characteristics of poster submitters, what was submitted, and how posters were evaluated by reviewers. The results provided a profile of first authors in terms of APA and Division 8 membership, gender, seniority, work setting, and geographic location. Gender distributions were examined for the total of 553 authors. Submissions were categorized into four topic areas: group processes and interaction, cognitive processing, intraindividual, and subcultures and ethnicity. The program review process did not reveal biases by seniority or topic area. Among three criteria used to evaluate poster submissions, reviewers appeared to emphasize the importance of the topic in deciding whether to accept or reject.
