An alternative view of the relationship between perceptual and inferential processes is proposed. It is argued that the distinction bet teen perceptual processes as low-level" and inference processes as "high-level" mental operations may be inaccurate. The proposition that these two systems may he independent, interacting, and equally, capable of providing high-level and low-level judgments is put forward and discussed in light of, findings on the perception of action.
