The effect of three levels of model affect (positive, neutral, negative) on imitation of a socially neutral modeled behavior was investigated with second grade children and compared with no-model controls. Positive model affect increased imitative performance relative to neutral affect, negative affect and no modeling. Neutral affect subjects did not differ from negative affect subjects in imitative performance. Subjects accurately perceived the affect states as different.
