It is argued that there is little evidence to support Helmreich's conclusion that there currently exists a pernicious conflict between applied and theoretical social psychology. The development of new journals, applied graduate programs and changes in the funding policy of federal agencies instead indicate that at present there is a rapprochement between applied and theoretical social psychology.
