Abstract
walster, Berscheid, and Walster (1973) utilized Adams' (1965) concept of equity as a model for human thought and action in a variety of social contexts. The Walster, et al. paper has been and surely will continue to be a stimulant to research, but in one respect--its reconstruction of the Adams equity formula-it may have introduced some unnecessary complications. The present paper argues that the simpler and more psychologically meaningful Adams equation can be preserved in its original form provided one assumes that inputs and outcomes may, for analytical purposes, be treated as exclusively positive in sign.
