This article explains the inadequacy of modern Western psychological and psychoanalytical approaches to interpreting people and their documents from any other culture modern or ancient. It then guides the reader through the basic literature of cross-cultural psychological approaches in the modern world which can be adapted to interpreting the ancient Middle Eastern world and the sacred writings it produced, particularly the Bible.
