The search for literary structure in the Epistle of James has been laborious and elusive. Some biblical scholars suggest that it is impossible to produce any reasonable outline of James because there is no relationship among the “unconnected sayings” that make it up. This study argues that James uses binary opposition to structure a coherent teaching on what it means to be a maturing Christian.
