Abstract
This article examines the two witnesses striking the earth and considers how such a text is inspiring to those concerned about the environment. I propose that the two witnesses are accused of actions that humanity has brought upon the earth. The two witnesses call the “inhabitants of the earth” to turn from their policies of greed, blame and exclusion and acknowledge that the ecological disaster is their responsibility and their fault and call upon them to live in harmony with earth rather than treating earth as only fit to plunder. The witnesses reveal to the destroyers of the earth what they are doing and the consequences of it. In this way Revelation 11 inspires today's work of environmental preservation as initiating now what God will later complete.
