Recognizing the contributions of four leading exponents of love between women, this article sets up a context for viewing lesbian relationships in an affirming social and religious environment. The historical perspectives of Bernadette Brooten, the theological and ethical reflections of Mary Hunt, Carter Heyward, and Virginia Mollenkott are all studied for their respective contributions to present-day understandings of human sexual identity within church and society.
