Abstract
Physical sexual health concerns associated with diabetes include impotence and retrograde ejaculation in males, and failure to lubricate and increased threshhold for orgasm in females. Desire problems for both males and females are rarely a result of diabetes. Psychosocial adaptation to changes in physical sexual function includes changes in self- esteem and alterations in relationships and noles. For some persons, the sexual alterations associated with diabetes represent a greater adjustment than any other aspect of the diabetes. An overview of the physical as well as the psychosocial sexual alterations in diabetes are presented as a basis for educating, coun seling, and referring patients who are experiencing sex ual health concerns.
