Abstract
Eight stable nonobese adults with insulin dependent diabetes were eval uated before, during, and after a four week program of daily meditation. There were no statistically significant changes in diabetes control parame ters including fasting serum glucose, two-hour postprandial serum glucose, HbA1c' and 24-hour urinary glucose. Patients did, however, express a sig nificantly (p < .05) improved percep tion of well being following meditation. Meditation may prove useful as an ad junctive treatment modality in the stress management of certain patients with IDDM.
