The Rehabilitation Team at New Eng land Deaconess Hospital includes the surgical and medical attendees, the dressing nurse, physical therapist, and prosthetist. The importance of wound healing, dressings, and progressive ambulation is stressed. A study of 260 diabetic amputees gives a basis for the most appropriate post operative timing for initial exercises, ambulation, fitting of prosthesis, and training with the prosthesis.
