Abstract
Small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma, also known as anaplastic small cell or oat cell carcinoma, is a frequently encountered bronchogenic neoplasm. Despite the fact that the embryologic origins of the larynx and the lung are the same, laryngeal manifestation of small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma is unusual, accounting for less than 0.5% of laryngeal carcinomas.1 We present the case of a 72-year-old man with small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of the larynx, who was treated with full-course radiotherapy and achieved complete tumor remission. Subsequently, multiple liver metastases were confirmed and systemic chemotherapy was initiated. Unfortunately, the patient died 12 months after initiation of tumor-directed therapy.
