Abstract

Every October, Otolaryngologists in greater Los Angeles and across the world meet to discuss harrowing cases and difficult surgical decisions. In this issue, we present some of the cases considered during the 2024 meeting. These include more typical problems such as further trauma with the extraction of a foreign body from the ear canal as well as rare and complex cases such as an osteosarcoma of the bilateral midface.
Unfortunately, since our last meeting, Los Angeles has suffered its own traumatic events with the tragic fires which burned two of our most beautiful neighborhoods. As the many cases in this issue demonstrate, ingenuity and teamwork in addition to concern for other people can lead to amazing solutions for both individual patients and the medical field in general. I am ever hopeful that as a city, Los Angeles can also recover through teamwork and creative thinking in order to welcome you to an upcoming Eerie Case Conference, a 2026 FIFA World Cup match, or the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
It has been my honor to edit the Eerie Cases Supplemental Issue for the last 4 years. I hope that the unique and interesting cases described and the lessons learned can be useful to other surgeons facing their own clinical dilemmas.
